2008 NATIONAL CHAMPION

Wahoo. Got some of the bad monkey who jumped on my back at the olympics, well got him off my back, if you know what I mean. I had a great weekend. I got the job done in the race early on with a solid swim and bike and could enjoy the run. National Champ… I like the sound of it. I felt great the next day and was able to get back to training right away as I have 4 races left- Dallas, World Cup Mexico, Escape to Bermuda, and Treasure Island.

This weekend, I got to hang with some of the coolest and nicest CEO’s ever with the CEO CHALLENGE GROUP. Meeting you guys was great and I hope to see you boys around the circuit heaps. Thanks for inviting me along Ted!!!

I was able to see Heather, Kelly’s roommate from college, who we havent seen since last year and my friend Ryan Carter, who sadly I had not seen in 5 years. That is not going to happen again…. I promise Ryan!

More race report later, as I am attending the Art & Science of Triathlon event held by USAT in Portland. Also doing some training here in Portland and loving it.

A shout out to my swimming buddy Brooke who won the National Amateur Title on the weekend. Brooke is a mother of 3, the wife of a cool guy named Andrew and a down to earth fun chick. Way to get it done Brooke. And a shout out to Don Orr, who also swims with us, as he qualified for the Worlds Team!!! Way to go Donny!

Boulder Rocked Nationals!!!!

Be safe out there and see you at Dallas if you are racing! Out- Big Matty Reed

Back home… and chicago

well I am back home and a very happy man to be home. I will write more about my post-olympics disappointment and all but want to instead write about home. I guess I learned alot about myself these last days since the race at the games. I learned that I am a balanced man, that my kids though it is hectic and all to have them at a race, they balance me. They remind me why I do what I do and why races are won and why it hurts so much to lose. I kept thinking to myself on the plane home and then on the plane to chicago (we went home for 16 hours and then the kids kelly and I headed to chicago to race Chicago tri) how much I love my life. I know the race was a big disappointment and I have no clue why I felt so bad on a day that meant so much and I had trained so hard for, but I did. I was fit as could be and fast but something didnt click. See the one thing is, Lachey cant count to 30 so he doesnt really know what that place is…. but come london 2012 he will. I am glad that I am learning from the race in Beijing and as kelly always says, fate will rule. And fate has. It was not meant to be for me that day. Hurts my heart to know it but lachey seems to bring my heart right back to what is important. “daddy went to the gimpicks". that is what he has said every morning since I got back…. guess I needed to be reminded from the 2 year old about the big picture. So I am home… Chicago was good. It got my head around the disappointment and reminded me I have many many more races in my career and that I really am still climbing to my best athletic achievements. So I am home, I am happy again (though I do have some moments…) and I rode my bike on my roads today, ran my hometown trails this am, and swam with the squad. Life goes on… so it does. Be safe out there…Big Matty Reed OUT

Disappointing day in Beijing

thanks for all the support guys! wasnt a good day at the office but heck it is the olympics and I gave it what I had on a day with flat legs. I am disappointed that I felt so off on a grandeous day of triathlon. I really dont know why or how and hope that I can learn just a little bit more about myself and my taper from this. I have been feeling great the last 8 days and feel maybe it was too much of a taper and needed a little more hard stuff in there this last week and a half. But that is sport and well, another race in 4 days time. Again thanks to everyone for the cheers, support and kind words! You guys rock! a slighty bummed out BIG MATTY REED

checking in from jeju

all is rolling along here in the island of jeju. my body is starting to like the hot humid island life. and of course I am enjoying the ocean and beach swims. training is rolling along nicely. I am getting excited for the race and am looking forward to being in that frame of mind again. I know the taste of winning… and i like it. I am missing my kiddies lots but i know it will be worth it. Kelly arrives in a few days to Beijing and it will be good to have the craziness back in my life. somehow life just isnt the same without her around. :-) Also get to see my mum in a few days time too! very excited to have some time with her. Havent seen her in over a year… the price i pay to be at the olympic starting line. check out some pictures of our days in korea and opening ceremonies at usatriathlon.org. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes! Hope everyone is doing well. BIG MATTY REED OUT
